February 2010 E-letter

Quality Report -

I have sent out our first quality report which summarized our performance in 2009. Thanks to all of you who forwarded comments. The feedback included some insightful reflections and suggestions.

The report is available at www.juctionmedical.com , and will be updated periodically.

Peoria County Report -
Did you happen to see the survey results in the 3/2/10 edition of the Peoria Journal Star which ranked all Illinois counties on the basis of overall health measures?

Peoria ranked #1 in clinical care but 77th in mortality and 86th in healthy behaviors.

The data is a dramatic reminder that less than 1% (that's my contention) of a person's health status is attributable to the physician-patient office visit encounter. Lifestyle, personal responsibility, environmental influences and public health measures plays a far greater role in determining the health status of an individual or a community.

On a lighter side -
I came across this humorous look at our current health care "system". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5J67xJKpB6c

While we wait for the Washington fix (don't hold your breath), I wonder if the resulting changes will actually improve the service and quality of health care experienced by the patient?
I certainly hope so. In the meantime, we will continue with our efforts right here in Peoria, Illinois!
